Behind the patterns.

I'm Akiko, a Japanese surface pattern designer living in the Pacific Northwest. Growing up in both countries has influenced my creative work, and I continue to go deeper into finding my style. I appreciate the simplicity of modern aesthetics and the understated elegance that connects to Japanese culture. Inspiration comes from many places: historical Japanese art, modern art, the unique botanicals of the Pacific Northwest, and the simple textures you find in nature.

I work with multiple mediums depending on my mood: brush pens, sumi ink, a sponge brush, pencil, and markers, to create motifs that become part of the artwork. My patterns move between geometric and floral, minimal and a little playful, always reflecting how I see things. I hope you find something here that resonates, something that brings elegance with character to your project.
